Frequently Asked Questions

1. How does hypnosis feel?

Because hypnosis is a natural state of mind, it is not unlike a state of deep
relaxation that you experience before sleep and when first waking up in the
morning, or when watching a movie that has you totally engrossed. Hypnosis
happens when brain waves are oscillating between the alpha and theta  range of
vibration which  occur between 4-12 HZ or cycles per second. Many people
describe their experience differently so there is no set standard for what you will
experience when you are in trance. Some describe a feeling of lightness like
floating, others report feeling heavy, and some report a euphoric sensation, almost
like being intoxicated but without negative side effects. Some even report feeling
nothing unusual at all, but achieve their outcome none the less. So whatever you
experience is just perfect because  each person has there own way of
representing sensations inside.

2. What if I can’t be hypnotized?

Every one can be hypnotized. In fact we each enter in to trance on a daily basis.
Any time your attention is so engrossed in a task that you are familiar with, you are
in a light trance.  Your unconscious mind is engaged when ever a complex task
has become so familiar that it has become automated. Driving for example, actually
engages the unconscious mind because operating the pedals, steering the wheel
and shifting gears consciously is too complex a job for your conscious mind to do
alone. And because you have become proficient at this complex task, you have
given the vast majority of the task to the unconscious mind so that you are free to
concentrate of other things, such as your destination and paying attention to other
cars around you so that you can drive safely.

3. Does a hypnotized person ever give up control?

Not ever. If someone were to say, “I’d like you to relax and take a deep breath”,
and you went ahead and did that, you would be the one to decide to do that,
wouldn’t you?  And,  if some one said, “now I would like you to imagine a beautiful
scene where you feel safe and comfortable”, is it not your choice whether or not
you do so?  And when your unconscious mind accepts suggestions, it like wise
chooses to according to its desire to make those changes that will increase your
personal power and well-being. In other words all hypnosis is self hypnosis and
requires that you choose to fallow the instructions of the hypnotherapist which is
an act of self control. You are always in control and can choose to accept
suggestions or not according to your needs. All the suggestions that are offered
are designed for your specific needs desires to achieve the result you choose,
which is an act of total self control.

4. Is hypnosis dangerous?

No. When hypnosis is performed by a qualified practitioner who has the highest
considerations for ecology in mind, hypnosis is safe and effective. There are some
specific guidelines that a hypnotherapist fallows that prevents any unwanted
results from happening. Those guidelines are as fallows:

Frame suggestions using toward language. State what you want rather than
what you don’t want.  This is important because  the unconscious mind does not
process negatives directly. So rather than saying,” you don’t want to eat
chocolate”, we would suggest, “you  now choose healthy foods and snacks and
feel the pleasure of making healthy choices.”

Use passive recall for regression hypnosis.  In forensic hypnosis, past life
regression  and other regression hypnosis techniques it is essential to use neutral
language when helping a client access memories from the past. Memories can be
installed if the hypnotist leads a subject to assume a certain memory is present.
This can be avoided by using  language the does not presuppose specific details
will be present. For example, a hypnotist might say, “ I would like to you go back to
the moment when you experienced the event, the one event, which when you
release the emotion on this event would allow you to heal its effects in the
present.”  The presupposition is that healing will occur, but the specific criteria of
the event are left alone.

Pain is a form of communication. A good hypnotherapist will never remove pain
without first investigating its purpose, and discovering whether or not it is in the
best interest of the client to do so. For example, if a client had a broken arm and
went to a hypnotist for pain control with out first seeing a doctor to have it splinted,
then removing the pain would be dangerous. Pain is a message from the
unconscious mind that there is something wrong that needs attention. If we don’t
know what is causing the pain and if it has not been treated by a medical doctor we
will not treat it.

Ethical Considerations.  Research shows that it is impossible to get a hypnosis
subject to do something that violates their code of conduct. If there are moral
compunctions against a certain activity, such as criminal behavior for example,
then  a subject will reject those suggestion to support their core values.  If a
subject or client wishes to stop a criminal behavior however, that is achievable
because their desire to do so is a result of their new core values. Changing core
values is beyond the scope of hypnosis.

Self Actualization. A good hypnotherapist is assisting their clients in making
positive changes that support their over all well-being and personal power. Never
at any time does a hypnotist attribute the change to him/her self. All change comes
from within the client. The client is therefore always responsible for whether or not
they actualize the change. This understanding prevents any kind of unhealthy
bonds of dependency from forming between the hypnotist and the subject. In
realizing all behaviors and change are unconscious and that all hypnosis is self
hypnosis,  the dependency or inter-dependency that is formed is always and only
between the client and their own unconscious mind. The client then realizes that
function of the hypnotherapist is only to assist the client in utilizing the resources
within themselves.

5. How does hypnosis work?

Hypnosis works by utilizing the innate power of the unconscious mind. The
conscious and the unconscious minds are connected in a symbiotic relationship.
The unconscious mind fallows the instructions of the conscious mind when there is
a relationship of rapport between them. In other words, the unconscious mind is
the servant of the conscious mind and chooses to fallow those instructions that are
given in a clear, concise and consistent manner. The problem that many people
experience is that their conscious mind gives inconstant or ambiguous suggestions
that confuse the unconscious mind. When this happens the unconscious mind is
then forced to operate out of previously held patterns of behavior, not
understanding the new instructions.

When a person uses hypnosis to give suggestions to the unconscious mind, the
unconscious mind can understand the new instructions and will happily fallow
them. The act itself brings about a rapport or harmonization between the two and
empowers the connection in a way that allows for maximum results.

The diagram below shows the relationship between the conscious, unconscious
and super-conscious minds (Higher Self).
